Mr. Walter Dixon

HOW I PROFITED FROM MY POW EXPERIENCES

1. I learned to make light of, Laugh or use humor to combat adversity as apposed to griping or complaining about.

2. I developed a higher level of accountability for myself and for others.

3. I learned the necessity for controlling my anger.

4. Conditions made it imperative that I strive diligently to control my appetite for food and water.

5. I learned the value of maintaining appositive attitude to the extent that it was possible.

6. I never lost faith in America or its ability to win the war.

7. I never engaged in self-pity, and my self image and my self-esteem was the best that I could provide for my self.

8. I developed an extensive and refined concept for justice and a far greater respect for our system of justice, which protects us as citizens of the United States.

9. I learned the importance of being compassionate, humble, merciful and loving and being able to feel and express gratitude.

10. I became more sensitive to the need to do everything possible to maintain good health to the extent that it was possible.

11. I learned to have a greater love for America and my family and friends, and for the freedom we enjoy so much everyday and to often take for granted.

12. And from this I learned how to live not how to die.

Walter’s Amazing Highlights

1. Joined Army at age of 16 to served in WWII

2. Prisoner of War in Chinese Prison.   Camp in Korean War

3. Reported dead 4 times in his life

4. 1st Wife remarried after she thought he was KIA but was in a Chinese prison camp.

5. Everyone later found out he was alive in a POW name exchange.

6. Ended up married for more than 50 years to the woman who wrote one of his obituary(s ).

7.An amazing man who’s answering machine says to this day, “thanks for calling you have reached the house of (GOWD pronounced god) Good Ole Walter Dixon, Leave me a message and I will call you back.”

Hometown Heroes Experience

The Hometown Heroes Experience is intended to honor America’s military veterans by collecting their stories on DVD, preserving them for future generations, and featuring them in a new vivid exhibit.

Five- to-seven minute fully edited digital stories are produced from interviews and conversations with veterans and are a part of the permanent Hometown Heroes Experience archive. This archive of stories is available through the internet, at www.hometown-heroes.org, and on the outdoor 150 sq. ft. big screen, as well as the interior touch screens of the traveling exhibit/interactive theater.

It is now possible for your company to reach 2 million veterans and their families.

The Hometown Heroes Experience has gone from producing a large archive of veterans’ stories to creating a calender of events that delivers educational and emotional entertainment to its spectators. This experience delivers a great marketing value and unique positive exposure to its sponsoring partners.
